The Worlds We Can’t Leave Alone

Some worlds ask for our attention.

 

Others take it completely.

 

I’d already gone to sleep.

 

Then sometime after midnight, Chapter Three pulled me back out of bed.

 

I thought I’d write a few lines.

 

Hours later I was still there.

 

Still following the tension.

 

Still watching scenes unfold faster than I could type them.

 

I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately.

 

Not just because of The Artist.

 

Because of what happens when something becomes impossible to leave alone.

 

A painting.

 

A photograph.

 

A story.

 

A life you’re creating.

 

The things that stay with us are rarely the things we planned for.

 

They’re the things that get under our skin.

 

The things that follow us into the shower.

 

Into the car.

 

Into the middle of the night when we’re supposed to be sleeping.

 

And somewhere inside all of that, something unexpected happened.

 

Ideas for the second novel started arriving too.

 

Characters I hadn’t planned to meet yet.

 

Moments I wasn’t expecting.

 

A world becoming larger than the page it began on.

 

I think that’s what happens when something is alive.

 

It stops behaving like a project.

 

It becomes a place.

 

A place you return to.

 

A place you think about when you’re not there.

 

A place that keeps revealing more of itself.

 

The worlds we can’t leave alone are rarely the ones we set out to build.

 

They’re the ones that keep expanding.

 

The ones that reveal more the moment you think you’ve seen the whole picture.

 

The ones that become larger than the page.

 

Larger than the plan.

 

Larger than the version you thought you were creating.

 

Chapter Three did that.

 

And now The Photographer is already beginning to arrive too.

 

Not because I’m searching for what comes next.

 

Because the world is already unfolding.

 

Some things don’t ask for permission to become bigger.

 

They simply do.

 

And the best thing you can do is follow them.

 

The world of The Artist is unfolding in real time.

 

Chapter Three is unfolding now.
